Dinner for four and you get to invite any three other people to join you. Who would they be?

My daughters, Taylor Swift and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. While the pairing sounds unexpected, I would love for my daughters to hear from two women who changed their fields in entirely different ways — one through the law and one through art — both through hard work, courage and conviction. I imagine it would be an evening full of creativity and great conversation (and maybe even a little music). The only problem is that since I have two daughters, it looks like I would have to give up my seat and let them enjoy the dinner without me!

What are your top priorities?

My top priorities are strengthening our operational efficiency, supporting attorney growth and development, and ensuring that we continue to deliver exceptional service to our clients across a broad range of practice areas. As the legal industry evolves, I am also focused on aligning our internal processes with the technology and data-driven tools that help us work smarter. At the same time, I want to ensure our firm remains committed to maintaining a strong, collaborative culture where people feel valued and supported — it is what has made us so successful throughout the years.

What is the biggest challenge currently facing your organization?

Like many mid-sized firms, one of our biggest challenges is balancing growth with maintaining the culture and history that defines who we are. Our firm has historical Baltimore roots dating back to 1887, so we want to continue expanding our client base and modernizing our operations while keeping the personal, relationship-driven approach that has always set us apart. Additionally, recruiting and retaining talent in a competitive market remains a key focus area, as we are always working to make our firm a place where people want to build their careers. Many of our employees — from partners to administrative personnel — have been with us for many decades, and we want to honor that tradition while also continuing to evolve with the profession.

How would you describe your leadership style?

I would describe my leadership style as collaborative, transparent and balanced. I try to set clear expectations while giving others the space to shine, as I have found that people do their best work when they feel trusted and supported. I also try to lead with empathy by understanding the challenges and then helping to find practical, forward-looking solutions. I have found that the best results come from people who feel energized, not intimidated, and my goal is always to foster an approachable, inclusive atmosphere.

How have your previous career experiences prepared you for your new job?

Interestingly, I have only held one legal job throughout my career — at my current firm! I started as a summer associate when I was first hired in 2008, and am currently serving as the firm’s chair. Each level along the way taught me something invaluable: from learning the basics of the law and understanding the demands of client service as a younger attorney, to managing complex matters as a partner, to leading teams and shaping firm strategy in more senior roles. These experiences gave me a unique appreciation for every aspect of the firm’s work.

What’s the hardest part of starting a new job?

For me, the hardest part has always been building relationships and understanding the nuances of the team and culture. Every group has its own rhythm and ways of working, and it takes time to tune in and understand each person.

What’s your favorite activity to do on the weekends?

When the weather permits, I enjoy spending time on the Magothy River on our boat with my family. It is a great way to unwind and recharge.

What’s your favorite local restaurant? Menu item?

Currently, my favorite local spot is Kneads Bakeshop & Cafe. I am a big fan of breakfast and brunch, which makes it a perfect fit for my tastes! On my last two visits, I tried their seasonal quiche, and it was outstanding.
