Semmes Principal Imran Shaukat will join the “Personal Perspectives on the Elimination of Biases and What Law Firms Can Do to Embrace Diversity” panel during the Fall 2021 meeting of the Maritime Law Association of the United States (MLA). Joining him on the panel will be accomplished maritime attorneys from Philadelphia, New England, and Florida.
“Maritime lawyers are particularly fearless and accustomed to having tough conversations,” said Shaukat. “I am looking forward to participating in this important discussion and am so pleased the MLA provides a welcoming forum for candid discussions about diversity, inclusion, and the elimination of bias.”
Shaukat plans to celebrate the formative early career guidance he received from Semmes’ legendary maritime lawyers, discuss his concerns that such mentoring may be more difficult for the next generation given the world’s new (remote) normal, and offer insight into how Semmes has and continues to address and eliminate these obstacles.
The MLA’s Fall 2021 Diversity & Inclusion Panel will be held November 5, 2021, at Faneuil Hall in Boston, Massachusetts. For more information, please click here.
