Semmes is pleased to announce that Michael J. Houde and Colin C. Smith have joined the firm’s Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability Practice Group as Associates. Both will be based out of the firm’s Baltimore office and represent employers and insurers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims in Maryland before the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission, on appeal in courts throughout the state of Maryland, and before the Court of Special Appeals and Court of Appeals in Maryland.
Before joining Semmes, Mr. Houde was an associate at a Maryland law firm where he represented national auto and home casualty and liability insurers. While there, he served as first chair in multiple trials in Maryland District Courts and Maryland Circuit Courts. He also represented companies in defense of asbestos litigation in the Circuit Court of Baltimore City’s extensive asbestos docket. He received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law.
Before joining Semmes, Mr. Smith worked as an associate at another Maryland-based law firm where he defended insurance clients in the District Courts of Maryland in matters involving bodily injury and property damage. He also defended clients in product liability matters involving alleged asbestos exposure. He received his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
