Mr. Houde is an Associate in the Firm’s Workers’ Compensation & Employers’ Liability practice group. He represents employers and insurers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims in Maryland before the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission, on appeal in courts throughout the state of Maryland, and before the Court of Special Appeals and Court of Appeals in Maryland.
Before joining Semmes, Mr. Houde was an associate at a Towson, Maryland law firm serving as first chair representing national auto and home casualty and liability insurers in trials in all the Maryland District Courts and Maryland Circuit Courts. He also defended major regional and national corporations in the Circuit Court of Baltimore City’s extensive asbestos docket in cases dating back to the mid-nineteen-eighties. Prior to that, Mr. Houde gained experience researching and drafting pleadings across various practice areas in litigation in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. courts.
Mr. Houde also previously worked for a Washington, D.C., law firm representing independent hospitals as well as hospital systems in Maryland and D.C. in all stages of administrative proceedings before the Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings. He simultaneously advised those independent hospitals and hospital systems in complex insurance and jurisdictional disputes and assisted in maintaining, ensuring, and establishing compliance with various healthcare industry laws and regulations.
Mr. Houde received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi. He is admitted to practice in Maryland state and federal district courts.
