Experience
Matthew A. McDaniel is counsel in the firm’s Litigation Practice. His practice primarily focuses on high-exposure civil litigation cases. He has experience defending complex class actions, construction defect cases, and toxic tort matters. In addition to his decade of legal work, Matthew also consults businesses and corporations on issues of risk mitigation, crisis response, and strategic communications.
Prior to joining Semmes, Matthew was Special Advisor to Governor Larry Hogan. He provided strategic policy advice to the Governor and senior administration officials and played a significant role in Maryland’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was a member of the Governor’s COVID-19 Senior Policy Group, the COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Task Force, and co-authored the “Maryland Strong: Roadmap to Recovery” statewide re-opening plan. He was also Director of the Governor’s Legacy Project initiative and the end-of-term transition effort.
Matthew received his bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Loyola University Maryland, where he was captain of the varsity tennis team, a member of the Honors program, and studied abroad in Rome. He earned his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
He was the 2015-2016 Republican nominee for the City Council of Baltimore City – First District and received campaign endorsements from the Baltimore Sun and Governor Hogan.
